Backtest Vault

FAQ

Questions

The short answers. Anything about billing is also on the pricing page.

Why not just ask ChatGPT to backtest it?

Because it can't. Without data and an engine, chat AIs estimate or invent results that look confident and specific. Backtest Vault gives your AI a real engine on licensed 1-minute data with realistic fills, so the numbers are real — including when they're bad.

When am I charged?

Not today. Every plan starts with 5 free backtests on the plan you pick, with all of its features. The plan itself (Starter $19, Trader $29 or Pro $59 a month) begins automatically when you use your 5th free backtest or after 14 days, whichever comes first. Stripe emails you before the trial ends and sends a receipt when you're charged. Cancel anytime before then and you won't be charged. One free trial per person.

Which AIs does it work with?

Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Windsurf, Cline, VS Code Copilot, Gemini CLI, Zed, and any other AI client that supports remote MCP servers. They all take the same connector link — see setup.

How do credits work?

A backtest on 1-minute bars uses 2 credits; 5-minute, 15-minute, 30-minute and 1-hour bars use 1. Re-running an identical test on the same data is free, served from your vault. If a test fails on our side, the credit is refunded. Your 5 free trial backtests don't use credits. Credits reset on the 1st of each month (UTC).

What happens if I cancel?

Your plan keeps working until the end of the month you paid for, then backtests switch off. Your saved runs stay readable, and if you restart a plan later your connector link and vault are exactly as you left them. Cancel during the trial and you're never charged.

Do I need my own data or software?

No. History lives on our servers and the tests run there. Your AI sends the strategy, the answer comes back.

Which markets and how much history?

NQ (E-mini Nasdaq-100), ES (E-mini S&P 500) and gold (GC) futures, 1-minute bars from June 2010 to last week, updated weekly. Details on the data page.

Who can see my strategies?

Only you. Your vault is tied to your account and never shared or used to train anything. Raw price data never leaves the server either — you get statistics, not bars.

Can it trade for me?

No. Backtest Vault only tests ideas on historical data. It doesn't connect to a broker or place orders.

Is this financial advice?

No. A backtest is a historical statistic. Past performance does not predict future results, and nothing here is a recommendation to trade.
